Enhanced Product Details Pages (PDPs)

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the shopping experience, we are redesigning the product details page across all apps and websites to include additional images and videos. This update aims to provide a richer, more immersive experience for customers. Displaying additional product images and rich content provides brands with the advantage of showcasing product details comprehensively, enhancing customer engagement, and increasing the likelihood of conversion.

Impact on Retailers and Suppliers
|
Drizly’s shutdown leaves a substantial void in the market, estimated at nearly half a billion ($500M) dollars in online alcohol sales. These Drizly orders are suspected to have accounted for about 50% of all online transactions for BevAlc. Consumers, retailers, and brands who relied on Drizly for convenient alcohol delivery will now need to seek alternatives. This disruption has lead to a temporary decline in online alcohol sales as customers adjust to new platforms. The transition period has already shown increased competition among remaining players, as we all vie to capture Drizly’s customer base.
Drizly’s business model involved partnerships with thousands of retailers and suppliers, helping them reach new customers and diversify their sales channels. Retailers will need to explore other e-commerce platforms or invest in their own online sales infrastructure to maintain their market presence. Suppliers, on the other hand, might need to negotiate retail media agreements and seek new partnerships to ensure their products remain accessible to consumers online

One of the factors contributing to Drizly’s shutdown was a cybersecurity issue that compromised the data of approximately 2.5 million customers. This incident highlighted the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in e-commerce. The fallout from this breach may lead to increased scrutiny and stricter regulations for online alcohol sales platforms, as well as heightened consumer awareness about data privacy and security.

Future of Alcohol E-commerce
|
The closure of Drizly raises questions about the future of alcohol e-commerce in the U.S. While the market has been growing rapidly, driven by changing consumer preferences and the convenience of online shopping, Drizly’s shutdown underscores the challenges and risks associated with this sector. Other players in the market will need to (and have begun to) address these challenges, including cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and maintaining customer trust. Doordash serves as a prime example of a group stepping in to take on market share…
The BevAlc channel for DD has grown 60% year-over-year through the first half (Jan-Jun) of 2024! This lands as their fastest growth since 2022 and much is contributed to acquiring ,any former Drizly merchants and consumers. DoorDash is on track to deliver about $1 billion worth of alcohol sales in 2024 across 37 serviceable states.

In the many Newsletters we’ve released over the years, we’ve highlighted and welcomed countless stores to the Bottlecapps family. We’re talking big stores (Guiness World Record big, in fact), small family-owned stores, and even corporate chains with well over 100 locations and billion-dollar annual revenue. But there’s another type of store that we at Bottlecapps love to work with, too, and that’s the franchise and marketing group model. In this edition of the Watering Hole, we’re shining a light on these unique stores and the value they bring to the Bottlecapps network!

We cannot talk about the Reardon Consulting without talking about Mike Reardon. Over the years, Mike established himself as a power-player in the alcohol industry, having worked with E.J. Gallo and some of the biggest companies in the United States. After a highly successful and commendable career, he decided to retire and ride off into the sunset.
However, plans change.
Mike’s business acumen in the beer, wine, and liquor space led to him becoming a sought-after person. So, right before retirement, he agreed to offer his expertise one last time and began to consult a single liquor store on some of the principles and fundamentals he’d learned throughout the years. Things like choosing the right POS, supply chain management, marketing, and industry trends were all right in Mike’s wheelhouse, and he created a system, of sorts, in his vision.
At that point, Mike realized he still had a lot to offer and now was even more in-demand. He then officially created Reardon Consulting, and became a full-time consultant. With close to 50 stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut, and now a partnership with Bottlecapps, the future is as bright as ever!
P.S. we don’t expect Mr. Reardon to retire anytime soon 😉

Macadoodles, a long-time partner and friend of Bottlecapps, is a well-known liquor store chain that offers a wide selection of fine wines, beers, and spirits. You’ll find them in various locations across the Midwest, including Pineville, Joplin, and Springfield in Missouri, and Springdale in Arkansas.
What’s interesting about Macadoodles is that they operate on a Franchise-Model. They offer franchising opportunities for those interested in opening their own Macadoodles store. As they’ve grown, their customers have happily joined them along their journey.
They partnered with Bottlecapps four years ago and began offering online shopping to go along with an already incredible in-store experience.
